Ariadne Capital 3rd Anniversary Event
Thanks to all who joined us in
celebrating our third anniversary. Speaking at the event was
Lynn Forester de Rothschild, Founder and CEO of ELR Holdings,
Inc., a private investment company focused primarily on
broadband Internet and new technology companies around the
world.
Lady de Rothschild pioneered the wireless local loop industry
when she founded First Mark Communications, Inc., in 1995 in the
United States, with operations in New York, Los Angeles, Boston
and San Francisco. In 1997, she sold her US interests in order
to focus on international opportunities. In 1998, she founded
FirstMark Communications of Europe, with the mission of building
a pan-European broadband Internet company.
 |
|
Having secured wireless local loop
licenses in Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland,
Luxembourg and Finland, and built a 23,000 kilometre
fibre ring through-out Europe, she sold the company in
June 2000, in the largest private equity placement in
the European competitive telecommunications industry up
to that time.
|
|
Previously, from 1993–1995, Lady de Rothschild served on
President Clinton's National Information Infrastructure Advisory
Council. In 1994, the Davos Economic Forum elected her a Global
Leader for Tomorrow. In October 2000, Lady de Rothschild was
listed as #4 on the Fortune list of Europe’s Five “Most Powerful
Women in Business”. She was listed as one of the 25 Digital
Europe A-List members by Time magazine in 2001.

|
 |
Lady de Rothschild spoke about
Carlota Perez' book, "Technological Revolutions and Financial
Capital: The Dynamics of Bubbles and Golden Ages", which
argues that a historical view of disruptive technology cycles
can be used to help us better
understand the current investment climate following the telecoms
boom and bust. |
