Jabra
BT200 Bluetooth Headset
I would like to think
that when I hear the term "convergence"
bandied about that it refers to a union of leading
edge technology, behind which is a great deal of thought
and vision.
Christmas brought a Jabra
BT200 Bluetooth headset to support my new Blackberry.
I found it comfortable, easy to wear and the sound
quality was excellent. At first, I thought the 3 hour
talk time was sufficient until I picked up a Belkin
Bluetooth™ USB Adapter. An impulse buy gadget, I was
curious to see how easy it would be to use my various
Bluetooth devices with my now empowered PC.
Belkin
Bluetooth™ USB Adapter
According to the package,
my Bluetooth adaptor would "Work with any device
enabled with Bluetooth v1.1 technology" and that
it would "Provide effortless wireless communication
among computing devices and peripherals through user-friendly
software". I was hopeful the headset would work
with the PC. I was hopeful that the 30 meter range
of the Jabra was a reality. I was hopeful that I wouldn't
have to spend the afternoon configuring drivers and
settings. A Skype user since January 04, I have been
consistently delighted by the quality of the product
and variety of services. Yet, being tied to my PC
for telephone conversations has always been an issue.
I thought the happy convergence my Bluetooth Adaptor,
Jabra headset and Skype would liberate me from my
PC and with true plug and play ease, I was on a Skype
call within minutes.
The downside to this
convergence play is that the 3-hour talk time on the
Jabra headset is now insufficient for most work days.
I've given up using it in the car for hands free Blackberry
use and carry the charger with me. Fortunately, it
recharges quickly.
