On 12 October 2005 Ariadne
Capital hosted an evening to listen to the vision
of Richard Duvall, the founder of Egg and now ZOPA
and to explore how people manage their financial assets
in the year 2005.
Richard's presentation
was especially interesting because of its angle on
society's progress from the collective focus to that
of the individual, combined with appealing examples
of how ZOPA's business model could revolutionise the
way we borrow and loan money. ZOPA is for anyone who
wants a better deal, but it is targeted at "freeformers"
- self-reliant people, who don't feel understood by
their banks. Freeformers are replacing institutions
with organic, evolving, self organizing communities,
which technology is helping to enable.
ZOPA is the first lending
and borrowing exchange - and a truly disruptive approach
to financial services. It puts people who want to
lend in touch with credit-worthy people who want to
borrow. And because there is no middleman, both get
a great deal. ZOPA's platform embeds a sophisticated
risk-minimisation financial mechanism to address the
main concern of lenders.
Founded by the team
who brought us Egg, ZOPA is taking the market by storm,
bringing on 36,000 members since it launched in March
2005.
ZOPA is going to be
the eBay for money.
So why should you start
lending through ZOPA now?
- To earn better rates
than with banks' savings accounts
- Lend now and earn
options in ZOPA
- Support a great social
phenomenon
- Lend from £500 - £25,000
In the view of the great
success of the first event, Ariadne Capital is organising
the second ZOPA Lending evening very soon.
