In Flight Entertainment for the Discount Traveler
Every
time I walk through an airport and see a businessman
or woman dressed in a suit, I think to myself “what
a life, first class travel!” with a twinge of jealousy.
Recently, I've seen those executives get on EasyJet
flights and fight for one of the best seats on the
plane with the rest of us discount travelers and
holiday-makers.
However, unlike me on recent trips to Norway and
Spain , many traveling businesspeople have a meeting
to prepare for, something to do for those 2-3 hours
in the air. What I wouldn't give for a movie or television
program to watch, or maybe even a documentary on
the place I'm going to visit (especially in the case
of Norway- where I had no idea what to expect besides
early sunsets and cold weather!). Unfortunately,
discount airlines being, well, cheap, haven't provided
any in-flight entertainment besides a dog-eared magazine
in the seat-back, so I've had to rely on books (which
are easily forgotten at home) or expensive magazines
from airport shops.
The team at Mezzo Movies
has a come up with a solution for the discount
airline traveler. Already in trials on several
discount airlines, passengers can rent a Mezzo
handset that is pre-loaded with a choice of films,
TV shows, music and documentaries. For about £5.00,
a passenger can rent the handheld Mezzo device
and have their choice of 2 films, as many television
shows as can be squeezed into the flight, radio
and potentially other in-flight entertainment.
Imagine watching a documentary about Rome and its
sights while on your holiday flight to that very
city (or any other for that matter), and figuring
out exactly where you will be visiting once you land;
or passing the 4 hours after an exhausting clubbing
holiday in Prague with a film to unwind before the
week ahead at work.
Mezzo Movies is completing a round of angel funding
and are moving forward quickly to market. Expect
to see their handsets and services being offered
on a discount airlines flight soon.
