Technology Pioneers have been identified as developing and applying highly transformational and innovative technologies in energy, biotechnology and health, and information technology. This year's companies have been selected based on their innovation, potential long-term impact on business and society in the future, growth and sustainability indicating signs of a long-term market leader, proof of concept through practical applications of the technology, and visionary leadership.
Run by the World Economic Forum with Apax Partners and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu as Strategic Partners, the Technology Pioneers program was established in 2000 to provide a new perspective on technological change. "The creative innovations produced by our Technology Pioneers hold the promise of significantly affecting the way business and society operate", said Peter Torreele, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum. "As a global knowledge hub, we see the Technology Pioneer community as key contributors to this dialogue and to the mission of the World Economic Forum."
Navio Solutions
Navio is a pioneer of rights-based
commerce. Navio's solutions are based on a groundbreaking new transaction
model, which enables consumers to purchase "rights" to digital content,
and not just the digital files themselves. From ringtones and mobile wallpaper,
to music and games, entertainment products today are almost always delivered
in digital format. Navio solves the problem of protecting those digital
assets through online services that enable legal file sharing, far-reaching
digital content distribution and commerce-enablement for online communities.
The Company's customers, which include leading music and media companies,
mobile carriers, and messaging providers, use Navio to protect their content
while enabling their subscribers to buy, share, download, store, and access
their digital content collections.
This new "rights-based" approach to commerce uniquely enables:
- More opportunities to buy - because commerce can now occur anywhere, every consumer interaction can become a sales opportunity, enabling "commerce at the edges of the network."
- More compelling products and consumer offers - content owners have more flexibility in how they publish and offer their content. They can sell individual items, or they can bundle related items together. Bundles can include multiple types of content. For example, a movie fan pack could include a PC game, movie soundtrack, and exclusive behind-the-scenes video clips. Bundles can also include products from any content location or fulfillment partner, without the need to centralize content.
- More valuable products - purchasers receive more than just a digital file, they receive rights. Rights can range from the ability to redeliver their content should they change devices or lose their mobile phone, to loyalty points to the right to share their content with ten friends. Users have access to their digital collection from anywhere - from their PC to their mobile phone, and from their home to their office.
Navio's application solutions include:
- The creation and management of digital commerce storefronts, accessible from any consumer touch point including web portals, mobile devices, and peer-to-peer networks.
- A "digital locker" for all registered users to transact, store and access their digital content at any time, including "redelivery" for lost content or upgraded devices.
- Digital content management, including the ability to package different types of content from multiple sources and brands into unique product bundles.
- Mobile and online marketing campaigns, which include services for customer acquisition, customer loyalty and retention, and retail point-of-sale programs
- Secure, rules-based rights management to include transaction and identity management
- Custom digital currencies, including the ability to create custom branded digital cash
"We are honored to be selected as a Technology Pioneer," said Stefan Roever, Navio CEO and founder. "This is a tremendous opportunity to meet with likeminded people who are trying to change the world, one innovation at a time."
