PR Counseler:
James Essinger, DaVinci PR

James Essinger MA (Oxon) MIPR - MIPR - has worked in public relations since 1984 and has been a member of the Institute of Public Relations since 1988. Prior to founding Da Vinci
Public Relations, James carried out an executive role at several leading London PR consultancies where he represented many blue-chip companies.
James has considerable expertise in corporate public relations for organisations that sell services with a high level content. These organisations usually cannot be effectively
promoted merely through advertising and press releases, but must rely on generating publicity for their expertise through such techniques as 'thoughtpiece' articles which are syndicated to a wide
number of media, and by generating in-depth profiles with leading newspapers and journals. Many of James' current clients have been with him for more than three years. He is also adept at running
PR campaigns for travel clients who benefit from Da Vinci's inexhaustible energy, determination to get results and careful attention to detail in what is a highly competitive marketplace.
As well as running Da Vinci Public Relations with his colleague Helen Wylie, James also writes books under his own name. To date he has published more than 25
management books. He also writes popular science, and has a particular interest in the history of ideas that have had a practical impact on the modern world. His first published trade book, Jacquard's
Web, tells the story of the conceptual and technical relationship between the Jacquard silk-weaving loom and the modern computer. It was published internationally by Oxford University Press
in October 2004. Jacquard's Web will be issued in Japanese in July 2006 and in paperback in August 2006.
James has also recently completed a novel, The Pirate Queen of Manchester Square, which tells the story of a fictitious but plausible Victorian computer revolution. Much of the research
for this novel derives from James' work on his book, Jacquard's Web.
In his spare time, James is a keen cyclist and enjoys playing chess and walking in the country around his home town of Canterbury. He has also recently taken up ballroom dancing.
