Morse helps organisations unlock value

Ariadne works with Morse to help grow an exciting new service to help companies save hundreds of thousands on datacentre costs

Morse is one of Ariadne’s key strategic partners. They provide significant value to the type of rapidly growing companies featured in the Ariadne portfolio, enabling them to build out operational IT infrastructure in a scalable and cost effective way. Morse’s depth of experience and corporate buying power really does add a extra dimension to a growing company.

But what about those more mature companies who’ve build up their infrastructure and datacentres over time? Applications and their underlying systems have been purchased and provisioned over an extended period, each with their own business case. Undoubtedly, significant effort and rigour has been expended on the initial purchase to ensure value for money and appropriateness at the time they were purchased. But the world moves on, those servers bought 3 years ago are consuming significantly more power and require more cooling than their current equivalents; support and maintenance contracts are more costly; and in some cases, the machines are now underutilised as a result of changes in business practice.

In a world of increasing pressure on oil price and hence operational costs of a datacentre, the CFO and CIO need to be on top of how effectively their server estate is being used. Morse’s new Total Lifecycle Management (TLM) service provides the answer to this. It starts with an automated scan to provide an audit of a companies server estate. The audit identifies server model, purpose, and utilisation. This is then correlated to an active database of running costs, covering electricity, cooling and support costs. What is really smart is it then uses this information combined with a knowledge base of the same characteristics of equivalent replacement equipment (which typically costs less per MIP, consumes less power and is cheaper to support), disposal costs and current trade-in or secondary market prices to make actionable predictions on the optimal time to replace servers. Suddenly, an organisation is proactively managing the lifecycle of its server.

Using their own capability and that of partners, Morse can go on to provide a full retirement and renewal service including secure, environmentally compliant, "no land fill" disposal.

The service can save an organisation tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds, unlocking precious budget. It maximises financial return on old equipment; it enables proactive, best practice governance; and it provides the CFO, CIO and board valuable insight into OPEX, asset costs and disposal liability.

Organisations who want to unlock some of their value stuck in older machines should certainly talk to Morse about TLM. If you want more information contact fraser.harding@Ariadnecapital.com.
